Lighting Awareness Week!

It's Lighting Awareness Week! Did you know? A typical lightning flash is about 300 million Volts and about 30,000 Amps. In comparison, household current is 120 Volts and 15 Amps. There is enough energy in a typical flash of lightning to light a 100-watt incandescent light bulb for about three months or the equivalent compact fluorescent bulb for about a year. Take note and stay safe!

Outage!

CCPPD had an outage last night in NPPD’s substation near the Beemer golf course due to an owl tripping the transformer. This substation feeds Beemer, Wisner, Dodge and three other distribution substations. Thank you to everyone for your patience.

National Lineman's Appreciation Day April 18th!!

SCAM Alert!

A customer of a Rural Public Power District in Nebraska received a phone call from an unknown source about their electric bill. The person calling told this customer they were with the electric company and needed collect the past due amount or they would be disconnected. The caller then asked for the customer’s credit card number. Luckily, this customer hung up and called the electric company directly!
PLEASE BEWARE! Norris Public Power will not contact you for credit card information over the phone. DO NOT give your credit card information to anyone who calls you. If you feel you have received a similar phone scam, please contact your local Norris PPD office.

Heard the great news? Tomorrow is National Lineman Appreciation Day! Late last night, the Senate passed a resolution honoring all the linemen for their work in keeping the power on and designating April 18, 2013 (tomorrow) as National Lineman Appreciation Day.

It's a little quieter today. The crews are out doing clean-up work and hoping for spring weather soon.

Thursday, April 11, 2013

UPDATE:

Everyone should have power by 5pm tonight. Crews are finishing up a few outages. Thanks again for everyone's patience. Please contact the office with any outages 402-372-2463.

Staying the Same

We are still seeing outages out there. Ice falling off of the power lines is still causing power to go out. Will update again when there is more information.

Update:

CCPPD has 50-75 people off. All of the crews are out working on the outages. No reports of actual lines down. The outages are from the warmer temps and the ice falling off and the lines slapping together.
We may experience outages throughout the day. Please call with any outages 402-372-2463.

Outages

We are experiencing some outages this morning. The crews are out, but with lines down, it could take a little while. More updates to come. Also, with the warmer weather and the ice falling off the lines, you could experience some blinks. Please call the office if you have an outage 402-372-2463

Ice Storm 4-10-13

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

RESTORED: All power has been restored. Thank you to everyone for being patient.

UPDATE: At this time approximately 75% of our outages have been restored.

UPDATE!

Update: We still have customers out of power in the northwest of our service area. This could be ongoing throughout the day depending on the wind and ice still on the lines. Please contact the office with any questions or reports of outages 402-372-2463.

Some customers have their power back on. Crews are still working to repair lines and poles.

UPDATE

We have about 50 customers out of power. Outages are not in one specific area. Mostly in the west and northwest of our service territory. All crews are out working. They have found a few wires down, but should be repaired soon. Please be aware that all power lines could be hot so please don't go near them.
We had a few outages overnight. Mostly from lightning hitting poles. The crews are out and hope to have everyone on soon. More updates to come.

A buildup of ice and heavy snow from winter storms can take a toll on trees and power lines causing widespread outages, and the damage could take several days to repair. Safe Electricity wants everyone to know how to stay safe and warm during the recovery effort. If you must venture outside, be alert to the possibility of electrical hazards. http://ow.ly/hTbJ1

The blinking has been fixed! Substation 2 in Logan township in Cuming County was having some issues with blinks on the line. CCPPD linemen found cows rubbing against a guy wire causing the wires to slap together and customers to see blinks. The customer has now put an electric fence around the guy wire and has fixed the issue. Any questions, please call the office 402-372-2463.
